POV: You’re planning your wedding and next on the list is the cake... but you have concerns

You’ve been to a few weddings but none of the cakes stood out. And the abandoned plates with half eaten slices told the story of what was on the inside.

We’ve all been there, and now you’re worried about your own…

  • What if no-one eats it?
  • What if it looks out of place in a venue full of carefully planned details?
  • What if it ends up being a disappointing slice of tradition that makes you wish you hadn’t had one?

Spoiler alert – that’s why I’m here!

But dates book up quickly – let’s chat so you don’t miss out.

I will listen to your love story and your plans. Then I will use my years of sugar craft and baking expertise to craft a delicious and stunning centrepiece for your special day.

And just imagine the reaction…

Your guests will be amazed at how it looks. They will share pictures. And they will ask you where you found such a talented cake designer (true story).

Then they will take a piece to be polite because well, you have to don’t you…

What they won’t expect is to fall silent as they taste it and a do little happy dance before going back for more.

They may even fight over the last few pieces that you planned to enjoy at home (another true story).

If you want that for your special day then get in touch and let’s talk cake!

How we will work together to make this happen

Step one: Save the date

The first step is to secure your date in my diary. If it’s available I’ll take a small initial payment as a booking fee. Then you can relax and tick “find cake designer” off your never-ending to-do list.

Step two: Think about my ranges

I understand that you have a lot to think about planning your wedding, so let me make the cake part easy. I offer three ranges designed to suit your needs…

Choose SIMPLY DELICIOUS for classic flavours with ribbons and silk flower decoration.

Choose SOMETHING SPECIAL to take it up a level with handmade sugar roses and foliage plus a greater selection of flavours.

Or choose TRULY UNIQUE if you want a cake that’s fully customised and, well, truly unique for your special day.

Step three: Let’s talk cake

Around six months before your wedding, when more of your plans have come together, we’ll talk about your cake.

For a SIMPLY DELICIOUS cake or SOMETHING SPECIAL I’ll check the details are still correct and you can choose to add a sample box or consultation and tasting.

All TRULY UNIQUE designs include a consultation and tasting as standard so I’ll send you a link to book. We will discuss your vision for the day. You will tell me what you do and don’t want to include in the design so that I can plan your perfect cake. You will also sample the flavours you’re considering sharing with your guests. I’d put money on you asking for my super lemony cake, and probably the light yet rich chocolate. But don’t be afraid to try the quirky options like white velvet with raspberry or tiramisu.

Step four: Have your cake and eat it!

Enjoy the cake of your dreams that wows you and your guests from first sight to the final bite.

FAQ: How much is a wedding cake?

With fixed designs, my SIMPLY DELICIOUS and SOMETHING SPECIAL ranges have set prices. However, because TRULY UNIQUE is – well – truly unique, this would be priced based on the details we will discuss at your design consultation.  Starting prices for each range are:

SIMPLY DELICIOUS starts from £219 for a single tier plus delivery, two tiers from £379 and three tiers from £542.

SOMETHING SPECIAL starts from £339 for a single tier plus delivery, two tiers from £499 and three tiers from £662.

TRULY UNIQUE starts from £450 for a single tier plus delivery and decoration, two tiers from £600 and three tiers from £800, and you can keep adding as many more tiers as you would like.

FAQ: What flavours do I offer?

How long is a piece of string?

I have a suite of trusted classic flavours which have become my most popular- vanilla, lemon and chocolate.

Then there’s the modern classics: delicately spiced carrot with an orange butter cream; deliciously sweet rich salted caramel; red or white velvet with a vanilla or white chocolate butter cream. Or try my own invention – decadent yet fresh tasting white velvet with raspberry, filled with vanilla butter cream and raspberry conserve.

But if my flavour menu isn’t hitting the spot give me a challenge to recreate a flavour from a favourite holiday, or to bring back memories of your first date or proposal.

FAQ: How much cake do you need?

It depends on your guest numbers, how much you love cake, and when it will be served.

If you plan to share the cake as dessert during your wedding breakfast you should allow for a party portion per day guest, plus some to be served as finger portions to your evening guests too.

If your cake will be cut later to be served with your evening buffet I recommend catering for around 80 per cent of your guest numbers. This should be enough for your guests to enjoy a piece or two with their evening cocktails, and still leave some of each flavour for you to enjoy at home after the confetti has settled.

FAQ: Can an intimate wedding still have a big cake?

Absolutely!

If you love tall show-stopping cakes but are only bringing together close friends and family I can give you the look using false tiers.

FAQ: What styles do I offer?

I specialise in sugar paste (fondant) cakes with delicate sugar florals. I find that this combination allows design flexibility without compromising on the taste and texture of the cake inside.

The luxury professional icing I use can be rolled as thinly as 3mm so won’t add too much sweetness to your cake. But if you aren’t a fan you can choose a thick ganache or butter cream finish instead. These also taste amazing, but offer less scope for creativity.

FAQ: Do I deliver your cake?

Yes.

I liaise with your venue and other suppliers then transport and set up your cake so it’s ready for you and your guests to enjoy.

FAQ: Am I insured, registered as a food business, and food safety & allergen trained?

Yes.

I have public liability insurance up to £5million, a 5 star food hygiene rating from Swindon Borough Council, and have completed food safety and allergen training.

Your venue might ask for this information when you tell them I’m supplying the cake. And it’s part of my standard admin to check in with them to make sure they have everything they need from me.

FAQ: Can I cater for guests with specific allergies?

I can make cakes “without” a specific ingredient or allergen such as wheat gluten, nuts, soya, dairy or egg.

However, there is always a risk of cross contamination. So if your guest has a severe allergy I would have to say no, it would not be safe for them to eat my cake.

This would be discussed and agreed before your order is confirmed.

FAQ: Can I provide an ingredients list for your venue?

Yes.

I list ingredients and allergens for your cakes as standard on the delivery note I will leave with your venue or wedding coordinator.

For orders with more than one flavour I also provide flavour cards for the venue to display with the cut cake. These too show ingredients and allergens so that your guests with intolerances can see if there’s something in the cake they cannot eat.
